Early Warning System for Nurse Burnout: Metrics and Strategies

The newest AONL-Laudio Insights report, based on analysis of almost 100,000 nurses across more than 150 hospitals, introduces eight predictive burnout metrics – from trends in nurses not taking PTO to repeated patterns of leaving late/arriving early. It also offers 30+ proven strategies from nurse executives and managers on how to address burnout risk proactively and effectively.

Key Findings Include:

  • PTO Threshold: When 50% of nurses haven't taken PTO in 6 months, early-tenure nurse turnover rises.
  • Extended Hours: Nurses regularly leaving late is the strongest predictor of burnout.
  • Break Patterns: When teams skip breaks, retention declines of 15%+ among early-tenure nurses.
